Our Story
From the highlands of Ethiopia to the streets of Washington DC.

The Beginning
Where Coffee Finds Its Home
Warka Coffee was built on the belief that coffee is both craft and connection. Its story begins in Ethiopia, where coffee is not simply consumed, but cultivated with care, shared with intention, and woven into daily life. From the highlands where Arabica first took root to the cup placed in a guest’s hand, coffee has always carried science, heritage, and community together.
Before Warka became a coffee house in Washington, DC, its foundation was shaped by the discipline of the professional world — where precision, systems, and high standards matter. That same mindset now guides every part of the coffee journey: understanding cultivation, respecting process, studying roast development, and serving each cup with purpose. Coffee here is approached not only as an art, but as a science — from origin and elevation to extraction and flavor clarity.
Warka exists to bring that full story closer to people. It is a place where the wisdom of cultivation meets the curiosity of modern coffee craft, and where every cup reflects both deep roots and thoughtful progress. In a fast-moving city, Warka offers something grounded: coffee with meaning, built on knowledge, care, and the desire to share something exceptional.
The Name Behind the Brand
A Tree That Brings
People Together
The Warka tree (Ficus vasta) is one of Ethiopia's most sacred natural landmarks. For centuries, communities have gathered beneath its wide canopy to settle disputes, celebrate milestones, and share coffee ceremonies.
The Warka tree doesn't produce coffee — but it shelters the culture that gave coffee to the world. Our name is a tribute to that tradition: a place of gathering, of warmth, of stories shared over a cup.
Every time you drink Warka Coffee, you're part of a lineage that stretches back thousands of years to the hills of Ethiopia.
